Arranmore Island’s
culture and heritage organisation

Taisce an Oileáin was established in 2021 for the promotion of arts, education, culture, the Irish language, and heritage on Árainn Mhór. This includes the organisation of festivals and events. Taisce an Oileáin has a cultural development remit, and the scope of its activities includes organising educational programmes and events, promoting, and documenting the living traditions of music and song on Árainn Mhór, commissioning new work, raising funds, co-operating with other organisations and running an office.

Taisce an Oileáin is a community organisation run on a volunteer basis. In 2021 we set up  a not-for-profit company to ensure good governance. The committee is made up of islanders and people connected to the island- men and women aged 18- 70+.

Throughout the year, Taisce runs Irish music classes and other activities ranging from art/craft workshops, foraging workshops, drama, music workshops, events such as Cruinniú na nÓg and Culture Night, poetry events and our annual festival Féile Róise Rua.

We are very grateful for the regular support we get from various organisations including Ealaín na Gaeltachta, the Arts Council and Donegal County Council.

Governance

Taisce an Oileáin is a company limited by guarantee, operating as a social enterprise to promote the arts, culture and heritage of Árainn Mhór (Arranmore Island).
